Here’s what Pavel Svoboda (EPP, chairman of JURI) had to say today morning when he was on Czech radio against Petr Mach:
It is good news for those who want a united Europe. Bad news for Putin and other people who want a Europe that fights within.
Small voices should not have the same opportunity of qualified speaking so that it looks like they stand for or represent the same part of citizens as the bigger groups. That is entirely logical.
It will, in fact, mean that the group won’t have the qualified privilege to comment on proposals in the European Parliament, it won’t have the secretariat and various aides and above all it won’t bother those who, in spite of the difference in their opinions, want to constructively build a unifying Europe.
Mr. Mach and those people were a little mistaken as to what institution they entered into because the European Parliament is trying to build bridges between the various nations. If Mr. Mach wants to disassemble Europe then I want to lecture him that it is much better done from the benches of the national parliament where he can propose the secession. This cannot be done from the benches of the European Parliament.
The group scored an own goal. Simply, one of its MEPs resigned and thereby she dissolved it. This isn’t about any action from outside; this is simply their internal problem. They are simply weak, minority, and irrelevant.

Dobrá zpráva je to pro ty, kdo si přejí sjednocenou Evropu. Špatná zpráva je to pro Putina a další lidi, kteří si přejí rozhádanou Evropu.
Malé hlasy nemají mít možnost stejně kvalifikovaného vyjádření, aby to nevypadalo, že prostě zastávají nebo zastupují stejnou část obyvatelstva jako ty větší frakce. To je úplně logické.
Bude to znamenat prakticky to, že ta skupina nebude mít kvalifikované přednostní právo vyjadřovat se k návrhům v Evropském parlamentu, nebude mít sekretariát a různé poradce a především nebude otravovat ty, kteří přes různost názorů chtějí konstruktivně budovat spojující se Evropu.
Pan Mach a ti lidé se trošku zmýlili v tom, do jaké instituce vstoupili, protože Evropský parlament se snaží budovat mosty mezi jednotlivými národy. Pokud pan Mach chce rozkládat Evropu, tak ho chci poučit, že se to daleko lépe dělat z lavic národního parlamentu a žádat o vystoupení. To se z lavic Evropské parlamentu dělat nedá.
Ta frakce si udělila vlastní gól sama. Prostě jedna z jejích poslankyň vystoupila a tím ji zrušila. Tam nejde o žádnou akci z vnějšku, to je prostě jejich vnitřní problém. Jsou prostě slabí, minoritní a nevýznamní.
